Canon 6D Review

As a photographer, I basically have a relationship with my camera. We spend a lot of time together. And I really know my camera... I have spent countless hours learning everything there is to know about my camera. And as my business has grown and my knowledge of photography has grown, I am sad to say that I have simply "outgrown" my current camera. There are shots that I want to do, but simply can't because my camera doesn't possess the  capabilities to do them. :-(

One thing to know about me is that I am a researcher. My current camera, I researched for almost a year before I bought it. I would compare to other cameras to see if it was really what I needed. DSLR cameras are a HUGE investment and I didn't want to put too much money into something that I wouldn't understand how to use.

So, after a lot of research, a few weeks ago I rented a Canon 6D (I want to purchase a full frame camera) and a 50mm f/1.4 lens from Borrow Lenses (if you don't know about Borrow Lenses, you need to know about them!). I wanted to get the camera in time for my Mommy and Me Mini Sessions - I really wanted to see how the camera would hold up on a lengthy session and how it would differ from my current camera.
Oh my goodness, was I surprised at the way this camera handles light! Even mid-day light, this camera is amazing! I was throughly impressed.

Now there are a lot of features on this camera that I won't touch on, like it having wifi capability and GPS. Unfortunately, I didn't even sit down to test some of those features because I only rented it for 3 days and because I'm a mom  - as soon as my son goes to bed, I am basically done. I have no energy or desire to move let alone fiddle around with a camera that didn't come with a manual.

Another thing to know is that my house has very bad lighting. And as a photographer, it kills me every time I want to photograph my little boy, but I am not able to without getting my ISO up to 3200, then my images are super grainy and I just want to cry (I know, first world problems..).

The ISO capabilities on the Canon 6D are AMAZING! Some of the photos below were shot with the ISO at 16,000!! Even in places like the zoo, where the lighting is less than ideal - this camera was great!

Okay, enough talking...let's get to the images. And I apologize in advance for the randomness of these shots. They are mostly of my son just being a boy...

*All images are shot with Canon 6D and 50mm f/1.4 lens.
**All images are edited - these are not SOOC (straight out of camera)

Now the Mommy and Me Mini Session examples. Again, all shot with the Canon 6D and 50mm f/1.4 lens.

To say that I am a little obsessed is an understatement. I LOVE this camera and cannot wait to purchase it (with the 50mm lens). So, I am saving my pennies and hopefully will be able to purchase it soon. With a $1,899 price tag, it is definitely an investment, but I know that it will help improve my photography and give my clients (and me) beautiful images!

Anyone else invest in new a camera or lens lately?
